Cerise was living on borrowed time.

Though they alone were granted a semblance of immunity, most were mere pawns in the Coercers' game. The smart ones learned early to just keep their heads down and play along.

When the Coercers discovered Cerise’s abilities, they offered an impossible choice: comply or perish. Pressed into their service, she chose to drown her compliance in barrels of rum, content to waste away the days—until tragedy struck. The murder of her gifted companion, Rachel, shattered Cerise's apathy. Fearful for her own life, she gambled with the Coercers, earning herself a fragile reprieve. She would keep their secrets, as long as they left her alone.

But when Cerise discovers the truth of Rachel’s death, she realizes she can’t stay in the shadows.

Fueled by a thirst for vengeance, she will break every rule that has kept her safe.
