My First Convention!

I live, still!

We’ve been so busy the last few months, just getting through life. However, it’s time to update everyone on progress. Had a lot of business to take care of. I had to get a lawyer to help. If anyone needs details on all the unexpected I went through, message me or comment and I will explain in detail. I went through a lot of hoops, and I had a vacation, and so very very many summer camps for the kid. But now she’s on her last one, and I can finally sit down and get some actual work done.

The big news is, I had my first convention!

I didn’t expect to do it at all. The problem was that I needed a secondary bank account so I could take payments. And to do that, you have to have all sorts of business documentation. And because it was so confusing, it did take me a while. However, I ended up getting everything done the day before the convention, thanks to my lawyer and his quick help.

I was extremely nervous for the con, but I ended up having a lot of fun. Long ago, before we became parents, I would go to Dragon Con every memorial day. I have so many memories of those times. It was, to me, a very comfortable place to be - surrounded by people who were also fans.

Also I LOVE costumes.

So despite the fact that I had to put myself out there, pitch myself to different people, it honestly wasn’t that hard. Some bought my book, others didn’t, and that’s just fine. But I got to talk to so many different people and we all had one thing or another in common. I loved it, frankly. I felt at home.

I was also fortunate enough to meet several other authors. With those connections I’ve found that I will be on a couple of podcasts, which I will write more about later. Of course I will also link to them when they come out. I know I have one I’m recording early next month. Another fellow spent a lot of time discussing the intricacies of the business with me, which I am extremely grateful for.

Alas, this Magic City Con was the last of it’s breed, as the person who set the whole thing up no longer wants to keep it going. I understand, it’s a huge undertaking. I tried to imagine all of the many moving parts and I’m sure there are so many more that I don’t know about. So I understand shutting it down, but it is a shame. It was a great con. And it was extremely convenient for me, hah! No need for a hotel room!

So I’m keeping my eyes open for more conventions nearby, I will be trying to get more tables. However, for the near future my work will be finishing the sequel to Endless Pain and finishing up my website. I will be selling signed copies through square soon. (Today, I hope!)

I can’t wait to hang out with you all again soon,

-Kat

I swear I ironed the runner before I went! Still I love how it turned out.
