Back at Work

Well, it’s been a while, but for good reason.

Y’all I got sick as a dog. Seriously. On Monday the 7th I did a ton of work around the house, getting stuff settled in and doing the normal work I do day to day. Then I came upstairs and basically collapsed. Sore throat, upper respiratory, you name it. And even now, ten days later, I’m off the mucinex but still recovering. I’d been fortunate that no one else in the family had gotten sick, (except for my niece but I think that was a coincidence).

And now, my daughter is home because she threw up at school. She’d done so well too, six solid weeks of kindergarten without getting sick. I was super impressed.

Well, she seems fine, no more vomiting. She’s just playing pokemon quietly. She’s saying she’s hungry so maybe it was a fluke. Even the nurse was like, she’s not running fever so she’s probably fine. I don’t know if that was some secret thing where I was supposed to make her stay at school or something - if you call me I’m gonna come get my kid. I’m not trying to put seven layers of secrecy on top of it. Just tell me what to do and I’ll get it done, no big deal.

So I’m here though because I need to finish reading my book because I have about nine hours until it’s cemented in - the kindle version anyway. Plus it’s just good to refresh myself with how each of these characters are laid out. After all, this book has been in my head for more than five years now and things have changed. Many of you know that Rachel was originally named Nora. That’s a fact that I still haven’t switched in my head yet. But others may not know that Cerise wasn’t even in the first draft, and she was completely added on a subsequent rewrite. And I’m so happy for it, because she’s really alive in my brain.

And she’s been yelling at me about the sequel for weeks now.

Anywho, I have most of the main plot points for the next book laid out, and a general direction of the third and perhaps subsequent books ready. I don’t know how much writing will get done today, there’s still the matter of making sure the book is ready for release. I can recall reading all those LKH blog posts and how frustrated she would get with having to do the editing and general book management portions of writing - instead of the actual writing and rewriting. I get it now. And I’m pleased that, for the most part, my work is done.

I’m curious to see, with all the nonsense cleared away, how quickly I can actually finish a novel. Let’s find out.

And hope and pray the kid is feeling better soon. I don’t want her to be sick like I was.

So cool to have a physical copy.
